The Lost Castle
October 2022
A tower-like, site-specific sculpture made from materials found near a lake.
The idea behind this project was to create a site-specific sculpture, which meant selecting an outdoor location and building a piece using only materials I could find in the surrounding area.
I built the sculpture near a lake, not too far from the town where I used to live. My chosen materials were dried sticks scattered around the area, along with larger branches that I trimmed.
To build it, I started by breaking the structure down into smaller blocks, that explains the (almost) evenly spaced cubes made from sticks and branches. I then used fishing line I found on the ground (yes, it's sad to see people leaving trash behind) to tie the individual sections together until the final structure began to take shape.
The sculpture stands approximately 2 to 3 feet tall. I find a sense of tranquility just looking at it, especially with the lake in the background and the intense blue sky.
